Serious leadership, real change: Andrew Little
I’m Andrew Little, and I’m standing for Mayor because Wellington needs serious leadership and real change this election.
As a former MP, senior Cabinet Minister, lawyer, and union leader, I’ve run large, complex organisations through challenging times. I know how to lead change, make tough decisions, and bring people together.
My priority will be ending the chaos and getting the Council focused on what matters. I’ll take a firm grip on Council spending to keep rates down and invest savings to protect our swimming pools, libraries, and other community assets. Major Council projects will be monitored by independent experts to keep costs down.
I’ll accelerate housing development to make Wellington more affordable for renters and first home buyers, make public transport cheaper and more reliable by increasing bus priority lanes and supporting fare caps, and make sure the new water entity delivers value for money and keeps costs down.
Wellington is full of creative, dedicated people with brilliant solutions waiting to be unlocked. I’ll make community feedback front and centre of every major decision and work with businesses, communities, and mana whenua to get the best for our city.
My priorities:
- Keep rates down – by taking a firmer grip on Council spending and independent monitoring to stop blowouts.
- More affordable housing – by making consents quicker and easier, converting empty offices into apartments, and protecting our city’s social housing.
- Cheaper, more reliable public transport – by supporting a weekly cap on train and bus fares and improving bus priority.
- Protect libraries and swimming pools – by prioritising our community facilities for investment.
- Make Council accountable to you – by ending the misuse of commercial sensitivity and putting community feedback front and centre for every major decision.
