Benedict Ong
My name is Benedict Ong and I am standing for Dunedin Mayor and Councillor.
Born in Dunedin and bred in Sydney, I am an investor and former Vice President and Associate Director private banker and corporate debt investment banker at Rabobank International, Bank Sarasin-Rabo, Royal Bank of Canada and UOB in Singapore. I hold a Bachelor of Commerce in Finance from the University of New South Wales Sydney. In my international banking career I covered complex financial and economic transactions across five continents.
My objectives in serving Dunedin are:
• No Rate Rises based on first-of-its-kind financial innovation applied to our council debt, drawing from my global debt expertise.
• Concurrently, bringing investment into our economy to directly boost council finances, more jobs, and directly supporting our businesses to grow your revenue.
• Bring our university and polytechnic needed revenue via direct, permanent collaboration with Council, developing professional education and graduate courses for global talent.
• Better commercialise our airport space to maximise retail offerings to boost council revenue.
• Innovatively structure our stadium debt to reduce interest costs whilst boosting revenue with international acts.
• Grow Aurora Energy’s long-term value ourselves, to double its valuation for ourselves over the next ten years.
If successful in my candidacy to serve on Dunedin City Council, in serving this would be my only professional undertaking. I will have no ownership interest in and no professional involvement in any operating business. I will have this commitment stated under a statutory declaration.
