Jon Turner

Kia ora, I’m Jon Turner and I’m running for both the Albert-Eden-Puketāpapa Councillor seat and to be a member on the Puketāpapa Local Board.

I’ve served two terms on the Puketāpapa Local Board and two terms as Chair of the Manukau Harbour Forum. I’ve also worked as a high school teacher, community engagement advisor and campaigner. I volunteer with sport and environmental groups and love living in our area which is blessed with a beautiful environment and diverse cultures.

I am running with the fantastic Julie Fairey for Auckland Council and the City Vision team for the Local Board.

I am running because I believe Auckland can be the best city in the world. We need to be making the most of our beautiful environment, on an isthmus between two harbours with our volcanic mountains and great beaches. We are the powerhouse for New Zealand, but we also face some great issues. We are continuing to build sprawling housing, and the cost of infrastructure to service this puts our rates up. We suffered from flooding in 2023 and earlier this year, and need to be working to protect our houses and environment.

I have years of experience in consensus building, working with people from different political persuasions and areas. I hold a Masters in Public Policy, and I know how Council works, and how to get things done.

Environment. Let’s protect and restore our harbours and waterways that link our communities so that everyone can safely swim and fish.

Housing. We need to ensure we’re building close to transport hubs and existing infrastructure, rather than seeing huge rates rises to cover urban sprawl.

Transport. Everyone deserves to get around safely without having to sit in traffic for hours. We need to invest in public transport, walking and cycling, so that we aren’t adding more cars to our busy roads.
