Mike Bishop
Hello, I’m Mike Bishop.
I am standing for the Hibiscus and Bays Local Board with the Backing the Bays team because I am passionate about ensuring the Bays area continues to thrive and grow. I live in Long Bay and am deeply committed to creating a more active, connected, and inclusive community. I am particularly passionate about resolving our transport issues, for our community to remain a safe place for all and protecting our wonderful coastline for future generations to enjoy.
I am a highly experienced sports administrator with over 31 years of experience as a CEO across various regions of New Zealand. Prior to that I worked in New Zealand and overseas in the finance industry. I have served as the CEO of Harbour Sport for the last 6.5 years, leading Harbour Sport’s efforts to empower and strengthen our community through physical activity, health and well-being.
Having lived a life dealing with mild cerebral palsy since birth, I am also a passionate advocate for inclusivity and championing opportunities for people with disabilities. I hold a Bachelor of Business Studies degree from Massey University and currently sit on the Boards of Paralympics New Zealand, Disability Sport Auckland (Board Chair), the Laura Fergusson Trust, and the Auckland Paraplegic Trust. I have sat on many other community, school and sporting Boards over the last 30 years. I have four adult children and two grandsons all of whom make me very proud.
