Rachel Brazil

Rachel is a respected Dunedin lawyer with expertise in workplace relations and governance. She understands the challenges faced by small to medium businesses, having spent 20 years representing employers across Aotearoa. Now in private practice, Rachel is known for her legal acumen and commitment to transparent decision-making with a vision for a council that upholds working collaboratively, fiscal responsibility, supports local businesses and prioritises genuine community engagement.

Rachel has served on numerous boards and committees, including the Night Shelter, Hospice Otago, Hospice New Zealand, Livingwell, SPCA, Women’s Refuge, the Work Opportunities Trust and the Starfish Collective which assists refugees wanting to build a new life in Aotearoa.

Rachel believes in a society that respects diversity, Te Tiriti and fundamental human rights, advocating for the homeless, our vibrant queer community, all cultures and the wellbeing of our youth. With her extensive experience across Dunedin’s legal, business and community sectors, she is ready to bring her expertise to build a stronger, more accountable city.
