With the city carrying over $2 billion in debt I am seeking a full independent audit of council finances and an end to unnecessary expenditure.

“As a mayoral candidate, I believe Christchurch needs strong leadership that prioritises financial responsibility, efficient governance, and long-term environmental wellbeing,”

Key Proposals Include:

Ending Excessive Debt

Christchurch City Council should cease further borrowing, undertake an independent financial audit, and remove all non-essential expenses.

Cutting Red Tape

Improve service delivery by streamlining council processes, reducing wait times, and eliminating redundant regulations.

Functional Public Art

Support for innovative public art that also serves a purpose—such as water-condensing structures, energy-generating installations, or shade-providing designs.

Restoring Christchurch’s Garden City Legacy

Inspired by Hamilton Gardens, Christchurch should develop themed gardens citywide. Unused red zone areas should become:

Foraging zones Community food forests Ecological learning spaces

Protecting Local Food Security

I strongly opposes further housing intensification on productive land. Moving food production further out contributes to higher food prices and weakens local resilience.

Tackling Urban Heat

Combat the growing urban heat island effect by planting more trees, reducing

unnecessary concrete paving, and investing in green infrastructure citywide.

“We can no longer ignore the impact of poor planning on food costs, and our quality of life. It’s time to bring back smart, green design—and end financial mismanagement.”
